Part II: NFP and the Military - Billings Ovulation Method

October 5, 2016

This post is Part II of a series discussing four different types of Natural Family Planning methods and how they all can be successfully used by military families.

What is the Billings Ovulation Method?

Developed by doctors and used by millions of women around the world. Women are taught to observe sensation at the vulva while going about normal daily activities and to note any visible mucus present while visiting the bathroom, there is no need to touch the mucus.  Women use their own vocabulary to describe observations, as each woman's fertility is unique.

Instruction and private follow up from an accredited instructor strongly recommended.  View the video below to learn some of the basics of the Billings Method (video linked from the Billings Ovulation Method website).

How military families are using the Billings Method:

Emily, Navy Wife

"My husband and I are relatively new to the military (He is Active Duty Navy) and have used Billings to get through basic training and his training school.  When we found out his first station was going to be the family-friendly Shore Duty (no deployment for 2 years/next station!) we didn't waste anytime taking advantage of that and are expecting our first in the spring."

How can I receive instruction in the Billings Method?

Instruction can be done online via: www.learnnfponline.com and charting can be done online via www.nfpcharting.com or www.fertilitypinpoint.com.

After couples complete the online course, they can be connected with a certified fertility coach that is local to them or they can connect with a remote coach by phone or Skype.  Or to find an instructor near you, click here.
